Twin birth announcement: one card or two, and how to word it for both babies

A twin birth announcement can be one card that names both babies, with each twin's time of birth, weight and length side by side. The card shop Kartenmacherei designs its twin cards to hold both babies and their details, and with one card every household on your list gets the whole news in one envelope. Two separate cards make sense when you want each baby to have a design of their own.
One card for both twins, or a card each?
One card is the simple route. Kartenmacherei says on its twin birth card page that its designs leave enough room to show both babies and still hold all the important details: names, length, weight and a first photo of the two. The same page adds that, in principle, any birth card suits twins. The French-language site Gambin, in its guide to announcing twins from December 2025, puts it plainly: nothing stops you from choosing a classic birth card and simply putting your babies' two first names on it.
A card each is the other option. A French-language guide on the Fonds Alcuin site, from February 2026, says that when the twins are a boy and a girl you can make a double announcement, and leaves the choice to you: two different designs to bring out their small differences, or the same design to keep the set together.
Our advice: send one card per household. If you do make two designs, put both in each envelope, so nobody receives the news about only one of your babies.
What details go on a twin card?
Each twin's own. The Alcuin guide lists the essentials for a twin card as the children's first names, the date of birth, their length, their weight and their time of birth. Gambin gives the same list and jokes that, for once, the date is the easy part, since there is only one.
The rest comes twice. One of the Alcuin guide's example texts gives a time of birth for each baby, and that is the pattern to follow: two names, two times, two weights, two lengths, written so the reader can tell whose is whose. Put each baby's details right after their name, and the line stays readable.
The Alcuin guide also suggests making something of the birth order: present one as the big brother or big sister, or as the adventurer who could not wait to see the world, while the other stayed warm inside. A few minutes' head start is a family story the card can start.
Twin birth announcement wording examples
Every message below names both babies and stays under 60 words and 400 characters, the message limits of our folded card. Swap in your own names and details.
Classic, with both sets of details
Noor and Liv arrived on a Sunday morning, eleven minutes apart. Noor: 07:12, 2,410 g, 46 cm. Liv: 07:23, 2,280 g, 45 cm. Both are home and keeping us busy. Love, Anna and Tom
Short
Two at once. Please welcome Noor and Liv, our twin daughters, and two very tired, very happy parents. Love, Anna and Tom
Who came first
Noor could not wait and came first. Liv took her time and followed eleven minutes later. Our twins are here, and the house is twice as loud. Love, Anna, Tom and big brother Sem
A boy and a girl
One of each: meet Finn and Liv, born on the same autumn night. Finn is the bigger one, Liv the louder one. Love, Anna and Tom
Playful
We counted again and the answer is still four. Noor and Liv are here, and our family doubled overnight. Love, Anna and Tom
Card shops play on the same doubling in their own lines. The card shop Kaartje2go collects twin texts on its twin inspiration page, among them "Als tweeling word je geboren met een beste vriend!" ("As a twin, you are born with a best friend!"). The Alcuin guide's humorous ones play with numbers, such as "1+1= 4 !".
One card, both names, and each twin's own time, weight and length after their name.
How do you make a twin card with Babyprint Lab?
Type both names into the one name field, joined by a word: "Noor and Liv". Each of our cards has a single name field, and it takes letters, spaces, hyphens and apostrophes, so write "and" rather than "&". If the pair is too long for the style you picked, the editor tells you and suggests a style the names fit on.
Then fill in the rest like this:
- Enter the birth date once. Twins born on the same day share it.
- Leave the time, weight and length fields empty. Each takes one value, and you have two. On our folded A5 card the inside right prints the announcement, the name and the details you enter, so empty fields simply drop out.
- Write each twin's details in the message instead. The inside left holds up to 60 words and 400 characters, and line breaks are joined into spaces, so separate the two babies with full stops, as in the first example above.
- Choose the folded card. The flat A6 postcard has a front and a back and no message panel.
A poster is the one place where two works better than one. Our posters print one name with its own date, time, weight and length, and take no message, so for twins you order one per baby in the same style and colour and hang them side by side, in black, white or natural wood frames. Our birth poster ideas help you pick the style, and more opening lines for any card are in our birth announcement wording guide.
When your message is ready, open the folded card in the card editor and check how both names sit in the preview.
