Folded or flat birth announcement cards? A5 card vs A6 postcard

Choose the folded A5 card if you want to write something personal: it has a whole inside panel for a message of up to 60 words, next to the announcement itself. Choose the flat A6 postcard when the name and the birth details say enough, or when your list is long, because it costs less per card in every pack size.
What is the difference between a folded A5 card and an A6 postcard?
Both sizes come from ISO 216, the paper series in which each size is nearly exactly half the area of the one before. A5 measures 148 × 210 mm, half an A4 sheet. A6 measures 105 × 148 mm, half of A5 again.
Our folded card is A5 once it is folded. It is printed as one creased sheet of 296 × 210 mm, which folds into four panels of 148 × 210 mm: a front, an inside left, an inside right and a back. The postcard is a single A6 sheet printed on both sides. Both are printed on 350 g/m² coated silk paper, so what you feel in your hand is the size and the fold.

How much text fits on each card?
The folded card gives your words a page of their own. The front carries the design you chose and the inside right the announcement, with the name and the birth details. Your message goes on the inside left: up to 60 words and 400 characters, which is about nine lines of ordinary text. The back stays quiet, with a small motif from your style and our brand mark.
On the postcard both sides are already in use. The front carries the design; the back repeats the name above the birth details, with a small motif and our wordmark (Jip, the pictogram style, prints the details on the front instead). The card editor has no message field for the postcard, so a line such as "We are so happy you are here" needs the folded card.

Which one makes the better keepsake?
That depends on where the card will live. A folded card can stand open on a shelf, and the front of the folded card alone has twice the area of a postcard. For your own memory box it also holds more of the story, since your message is printed inside it.
A postcard is the easier one to pin to a fridge or tuck into the corner of a mirror, and at A6 it takes up less room on a crowded door. It still holds the name and the birth details, on a card small enough to slip into a baby book.
What about envelopes?
Every pack comes with one blank envelope per card: plain white 120 g envelopes, C5 for the folded A5 card and C6 for the postcard. C is the ISO series used mainly for envelopes, and German Wikipedia's article on paper formats says content in an A format is typically sent in an envelope of the matching C format.
The whole pack is delivered to the one address you enter at checkout. You write the addresses on the envelopes and post the cards yourself, so check your postal service's rates for the envelope size before you buy stamps.
Which should you choose?
Start from what you want the card to say, then look at the list.
- You want to write a message: the folded card, since the postcard has no panel for one.
- Your list is long: the postcard. In a pack of 100 it works out at €1.20 a card against €1.70 for the folded card, €50 less for the whole pack.
- You want both: a basket takes up to ten lines, so you can order folded cards for close family and postcards for everyone else.
Choose the folded card for the message and the postcard for the long list.
Both formats come in packs of 10, 25, 50 and 100. Prices (October 2026) include VAT; shipping comes on top.
