First Mother's Day or Father's Day gift from the baby: the birth details on the wall

First Mother's Day or Father's Day gift from the baby: the birth details on the wall

A first Mother's Day or Father's Day gift "from the baby" can carry the baby's own details: the name and the birth date, and if you like the time, weight and length. For a baby born this autumn, the first Mother's Day in the Netherlands and Germany is Sunday 9 May 2027, and in France Sunday 30 May 2027.

When are the first Mother's Day and Father's Day in 2027?

The three countries follow three different calendars, and in Germany Father's Day comes first.

Netherlandssecond Sunday of May: 9 May 2027third Sunday of June: 20 June 2027
Germanysecond Sunday of May: 9 May 2027Ascension Day: Thursday 6 May 2027
Francelast Sunday of May: 30 May 2027third Sunday of June: 20 June 2027

In France, Mother's Day is set by a legal text. Article D215-2 of the French social action and families code reads: "La fête des mères est fixée au dernier dimanche de mai." When that Sunday is Whit Sunday, it moves to the first Sunday of June. Father's Day has no such text: the government's answer to written question no. 181 in the National Assembly, published on 25 February 2025, says that Father's Day, like the grandmothers' and grandfathers' days, has no legal existence and is a commercial initiative.

In Germany the folk Vatertag is held on Ascension Day, a public holiday. In 2027 that is Thursday 6 May, three days before Muttertag, so a parent who wants both gifts ready needs the Father's Day one first.

What do gift guides suggest for a first Mother's Day from the baby?

The French site Gambin published a guide to gifts for a young mother's first fête des mères in September 2025. Its engraving ideas for a piece of jewellery for a new mother start with the child's first name and date of birth, then a hand or foot print. Further down it suggests a professional family photo shoot and a photo album of the pregnancy and the first months.

For fathers, the French site Marques de France lists a "première fête des pères" canvas by L'Atelier Baby'Sphère: a photo, such as one of the newborn with their dad, with the baby's first name added.

Between them, the two pages come back to the baby's name, the birth date and a photo.

What can a poster from the baby show?

A birth poster carries the name and the birth date, the two fields our poster editor requires. The time of birth, the weight and the length are optional, so add them if you have them to hand.

If you would rather have a photo of the baby, or of the baby with the parent you are celebrating, pick one of our photo designs: they hold between one and four photos on the front. Our guide to taking a newborn photo at home covers the light and how close to get.

The poster prints no personal message. A message of your own is something only our folded cards print, on the inside left, so a line such as "Happy first Mother's Day" goes on a card you write yourself.

The poster holds the birth details; the words for the day go on a card in your own hand.

The frame comes in black, white or natural wood, at one price for all three. Prices (October 2026) include VAT; shipping comes on top. If you are still deciding where it will hang, our nursery wall decor ideas set the framed poster and the canvas side by side.

How do you get it there on time?

Work back from the day. The editor shows the price and the expected arrival before you pay, and orders go to production automatically shortly after payment, so we cannot promise to change or cancel one once it is paid. We print exactly the text and choices you approved on the proof, so check the spelling of the name before you approve it.

To see the poster with your baby's details on it, open the poster editor and type the name and the date.
